How to Make Easy Christmas Crack

Step 1: Gather Ingredients and Preheat Oven – To ensure a smooth baking experience gather your ingredients before starting. 1 cup of butter, 1 cup of packed brown sugar, 2 sleeves of saltine crackers and 1 – 12 ounce bag of chocolate chips. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Step : Prepare Pan – Line a 13 x 18 baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with a light layer of cooking spray. Once the pan is lined and sprayed, line pan with saltines crackers, salt side up. It should take about 54 crackers to cover the baking sheet.

Step 3: Boil – In a medium size pan, over medium heat, melt 1 cup of butter. Once you mostly melt the butter, add 1 cup packed brown sugar. Stir until combined. Continue stirring until it comes to a boil. Once mixture reaches a boil, remove whisk and let boil for 3 minutes. DO NOT STIR.

Step 4: Spread Toffee – After the mixture has boiled for 3 minutes, gently spread mixture over the crackers. Be careful not to move the crackers too much.

Step 5: Bake – Once you spread the toffee, bake it! Bake at 400 degrees for 5 minutes.

Step 6: Sprinkle Chocolate – When the 5 minutes is up, remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with a 12 ounce bag of your favorite chocolate chips. Wait 5 minutes.

Step 7: Spread and Sprinkle! – Once chocolate chips look shiny it’s time to spread them. Evenly spread the chocolate and then top with sprinkles, nuts or coarse salt.

Step 8: Chill and Crack! – Once pan is cool to the touch, place pan in the fridge until chocolate has set. Now that the chocolate has hardened the Christmas Crack is ready. Break in pieces and store in an air tight container.

  • 1 cup butter no substitutes
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 sleeves saltine crackers
  • 12 oz chocolate chips
  • sprinkles, nuts or coarse salt optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400℉.
  • Line a 18 x 13 baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with baking spray.
  • Line foil with saltine crackers, salt side up. Set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, over medium heat, melt butter. Once butter is mostly melted add packed brown sugar and stir.
  • Continually stir until mixture begins to boil. Once mixture comes to a boil remove whisk and let boil for 3 minutes. DO NOT STIR.
  • Spread mixture over crackers taking care not to move them too much.
  • Bake at 400℉ for 5 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips evenly. Let set until chips become shiny.
  • Spread chocolate with a knife and top with sprinkles, nuts or coarse salt before the chocolate hardens.
  • Once pan is cooled transfer to refrigerator till chocolate is hardened. When chocolate is set break into pieces and enjoy!
